This A4 size book of 210 pages covers the history of the South Cambridgeshire village of Fowlmere, which is nine miles south of the City of Cambridge and near to the Hertfordshire County border. It records the history, heritage, archaeological investigations of the ancient ‘Round Moat’ and the ‘Bran Ditch’, the flora and fauna of the village and its environment, the Great War and the Second World War airfields, changes in village life over the centuries and the effects of post war housing development on a small rural community.

There are twenty seven chapters starting with ‘The Mere’, from which the village takes its name and ending with ‘From Harvest to Hi-Tech’ which describes the development and changes in agriculture and light industry, and ‘Fowlmere Time Line’ highlighting events from prehistoric times to the present day. Other chapters cover the former watercress beds now an RSPB Nature Reserve, No.19 Squadron RAF, the 339th Fighter Group of the USAAF, sporting activities, fun and frolics, the community spirit in the village, music, old cottages and houses, and the village pubs and shops. There are nearly 400 monocrome photographs and 6 diagrams.
